The Christian View on Death

With the recent passing of Whitney Houston, death has been on the minds of many individuals. As Christians, we begin to question how we are called to view death. The bible address death in several different passages. Passages talk about the death of our physical bodies, as well as what takes place with our spirits when we face death.

First, one cannot experience eternity with out the death of their physical body. This is the largest concern of individuals, not only because of the idea of leaving earth and family behind, but also because of the uncertainty of what lies ahead. Death is inevitable, and the inevitable is what we must prepare for the most. We must live our lives to the fullest everyday, knowing that death is to come. When we think about it, we should not think about it in fear, but as something to cause us to constantly live life to the fullest and please God in all we do. As Christians, we need to realize that death is truly harmless. Death does not alter our spirit, or our of destiny with our eternal life. Death is absolutely necessary to be capable of taking part in the enjoyment of heaven.

In remembering not to fear death, we Christians can also realize that death is what will truly bring us paradise. In the bible, heaven is described as a paradise where there is only pure happiness, and no sorrows nor strife. This happiness also begins immediately after death. These reasons alone are reasons why Christians must not fear death but embrace the happiness that comes as a result. Death is truly a removal from the struggles and trials on earth. God also can use death as a way to remove his people from the trials and temptations on earth. One of my mothers close friends lost her daughter in a car accident when her daughter was only 19. Her daughter had grown up in the church and always been a Christian, but she was going through a rough period, and her mother feared she was going to fall away. Her mother, although mourning, was actually blessed by the death of her child at the time it was, because her daughter had not truly fallen away but still maintained her faith at the time she died. If she had not been taken at the time she was, she may have been taken after she had fallen away from God.

As a Christian viewing death, we must remember that God already has our days numbered from the beginning of time. Death is merely an act that must take place for us to experience eternal life. Without death, our lives would be pointless, because the goals we strived for while on earth would never be truly fulfilled without heaven.
