You can't even check your email with out seeing him on the front of the page. He is the talk of the town! People are calling it the era of LINsanity! Who might I be talking about? Of course, I'm talking about the kick off of Jeremy Lin's long and successful basketball career on the New York Knicks.
Jeremy Lin was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in Palo Alto, California in a Christian family. Both of his parents are 5'6" when Lin is a towering 6'3". During his senior year of high school in 2005, Lin guided Palo Alto High School to a 32–1 record and upset nationally ranked Mater Dei, with a victory 51–47, for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division II state title. Lin was named Northern California Division II Player of the Year, ending his senior year averaging 15.1 points, 7.1 assists, 6.2 rebounds and 5.0 steals.
In his college days he played for Harvard, which isn't exactly a school for athletes. Although Harvard was not a huge school for sports, He still played basketball for the school and also graduated in 2010 with a degree in Economics. After college, Lin was picked up by the Golden State Warriors, then traded to the Houston rockets and then traded to the New York Knicks. And that is when it began.
On February 4, 2012, Lin had 25 points, five rebounds, and seven assists, all of which were career-highs for Lin in a 99–92 Knicks victory over the New Jersey Nets. Lin made his first career start as an NBA player against the Utah Jazz and had 28 points and eight assists. In a game against the Washington Wizards, Lin had 23 points and 10 assists. It was his first double-double. On February 10, Lin scored a new career-high 38 points and had seven assists, leading the Knicks in their 92–85 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. This game especially was a huge deal because Lin out-scored the superstar of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant 34-38. Lin's talents were being seen by everyone! Kobe Bryant was interviewed after the game and was asked "Do you have any suggestions for Jeremy Lin as he starts his career in the NBA?" Kobe responded saying, "I'm not giving him any damn suggestions! He almost dropped 40 points on us, he's fine!" On February 11, Lin scored 20 points and had 8 assists in a narrow 100–98 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Lin made history when he scored 89, 109, and 136 points in his first three, four, and five career starts, respectively, all three of which are the most by any player in the NBA. Lin was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week after averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 assists and 2.0 steals in those four starts with the Knicks going undefeated. On February 14, Lin scored a game-winning three-pointer against the Toronto Raptors with less than a second remaining in a game. There is no doubt that Lin is leading his team to a streak of victory but is it just a phase for the Harvard graduate? Or will this be the beginning of a rising star. One thing is for sure and that is that Jeremy Lin is being recognized and when asked how he handles it, he answers honestly saying "I've surrendered that to God. I'm not in a battle with what everybody else thinks anymore."
