What if a thousand creepy crawlies came crawling your way with webs spewing out from their behinds? What if your bed was filled with a 2 inch thick layer of webs? Is such a thing even possible you say, well as a matter of fact it is! In Wagga Wagga, a town in Australia, thousands of wolf spiders have escaped to the surface of the town escaping a flood of rising water. They have made the landscape and farm houses their home covering the town in a sheet of webs. To many people this would seem as a horrible thing. For crying out loud the people are walking through fields of webs! But in other terms they are actually happy about this. Due to the rising water there has been a recent outbreak of mosquitoes and other swamp insects. With the climb of spiders they have helped out taking care of the increase of bugs. Luckily the wolf spider is not that poisonous of a spider but to many others the creepy crawlies still give a scare. Luckily too many though most of the town had already been evacuated due to the flooding so only a few handful of residence are dealing with these newly arrived towns folk. But thankfully for those left behind the spiders are not likely to stay much longer. The water is in fact declining and soon they will go back to their normal habitat life. Digging deep into the ground living in solidarity away from the town. But until then the townsfolk will just have to deal with the spiders dropping from trees down onto their head. Falling on their nose while they sleep, and coming out of their cereal when the eat. But other than invading their personal space the spiders are still contributing. Getting rid of mosquitoes, weeding out ant colonies, and taking care of any rats trying to also invade ones home. “They are actually cleaning up many things that have been bothering us residence. The air has fewer mosquitos, I no longer have an ant problem, and any small piece of trash is picked up by webs and used in the ecosystem.” Claudius Brown, local resident of Wagga Wagga.
Scientists say that this as a matter of fact occurred once before in Pakistan after a flood. Spiders were forced into trees and soon every tree around the flooded area was filled with discolored webs that were fluttering with insects. The wolf spiders are known to leave their habitat area for survival and are famous for it. It is something that many other spiders do not do because of how they are made. But the wolf spiders themselves are brave and courageous as they venture out in the world to fill towns and trees with webs. But the thing is they are mostly praised wherever they go because of the benefits they bring. But I must say as a Pickle I would rather not have a thousand spiders come to my town, because I simply do not like them.
